Success in the second half of the year isn’t determined by how hard U work (I promise!) It’s determined by how intentionally U lead.
I don’t know about U, but it’s hard for me to fathom that we’re already halfway through the year. (Didn’t we JUST carve the turkey last week?)
Here’s the thing, most leaders start January with goals, plans, and plenty of unbridled momentum. Then…reality shows up. Priorities shift, unexpected challenges arise, and before U know it, you’re running hard and not always certain you’re running in the right direction. Can U relate? I know I’ve been there…more than once, for sure.
That’s why June is the perfect time to pause and do a quick leadership check-in. I do this process often with my executive coaching clients, and trust me, this helps.
Ask yourself these five questions:
1. Are our goals still relevant?
What seemed important six months ago may or may not be what matters most today. Have your priorities changed? Has your market changed? Has your team changed? Adjust accordingly.
2. What’s draining our team’s energy?
Every organization has energy leaks. It’s normal, and common. A process, a person, a meeting, or a problem that’s been hanging around too long can all become energy suckers. What’s getting in the way of your people doing their best work? Eliminate it or make a change.
3. What should we stop doing?
Not everything deserves a place on the calendar. What can U eliminate, simplify, or let go of completely to create more focus? Simplicity can often lead to far greater intentionality and clarity. Narrow down to zone in.
4. Where are our biggest opportunities right now?
Leaders spend a lot of time solving problems. GREAT leaders also look for possibilities. What’s working? What’s growing? What deserves more attention? What else is going on in the market? Put energy there.
5. What leadership skill do I need to strengthen?
Your business can only grow as much as U do. And I will beat this drum until
I draw my last breath. INVEST in U. What’s one area of leadership that would have the greatest impact if U improved it? U are the best investment U will EVER make, and your personal and professional growth will pay dividends for a lifetime. Guaranteed.
The middle of the year isn’t just a checkpoint, it’s a reflection point and a reset point. Take 30 minutes and look both inward and outward…and do it with honesty. Make a few intentional adjustments and remain consistent…this is about the long game. The leaders who finish the year strong aren’t necessarily the ones who work the hardest, they’re the ones who stop long enough to make sure they’re still headed in the right direction. And that clarity is priceless.
With love & gratitude,
