At U & Improved, we’ve always believed leadership isn’t about titles, position or authority. Leadership is about growth. And when I refer to growth, I’m referring to both professional and personal growth. One thing I have have learned in my 26 years in leadership development , and that I know with complete certainty, is that there are a few skills, that when cultivated and honed, can dramatically set exceptional leaders apart.
Let me share these skills with U today so U can shine even brighter in whatever role U currently fill, both at work and at home.

   1.  Agility

If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s this: change is constant. Instead of clinging to a perfect plan, and betting on that being “the way”, practice micro-pivots as necessary. Adjust one small piece and keep moving forward. The key is being nimble and understanding that even the best and most thorough and well thought out plan may need tweaking. And that’s ok. Embrace flexibility and the ability to make a change. Agility is like a muscle, the more U flex it, the stronger it gets. So don’t be scared to do the reps.

    2.  Creative Problem-Solving

I have seen this to be true in countless companies I have provided training for, and in my own business as well: some of the best breakthroughs come from the wildest ideas. Brick walls can appear. Doubt can creep in. So when U hit a roadblock, because let’s face it…U will…ask your team to throw out five “what if” ideas, with no judgment. Nine times out of ten, one of those will spark the fresh solution U have been waiting for. So empower your team to voice their opinions and ideas. (And if U need help with that, let’s talk…)

    3. Self-Awareness

This one is the game-changer. Leaders who know themselves…their strengths, their blind spots and their triggers…lead with authenticity. And authenticity breeds trust. Test this out: ask a trusted teammate, “What’s one thing I do that helps U, and one thing that gets in the way?” It’s simple, humbling, and incredibly powerful. U will both learn a lot, and the key is to listen with an open mind and heart, and apply their feedback accordingly.
The U & Improved Takeaway
Leadership in 2025 and beyond isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about staying curious, flexible, and committed to becoming the best version of U.
Which of these three skills do U feel strongest in right now, and which one could use some “U & Improvement?”Remember, I am here for U and your team always, and in any way I can be of service.
With love & gratitude,
Jodi
