August is here, and for many that means back-to-school season. The stores are chock full of backpacks, notebooks, and kids getting ready for another year of learning. But here’s the truth: learning doesn’t stop when traditional school ends. At least, it shouldn’t. And I will preach this until I take my last breath…ALWAYS KEEP LEARNING!
One of my biggest mentors, my grandfather, used to say to me, “The day I stop learning is the day I die.” My grandfather was the epitome of a lifelong learner, and he would quote philosophers and leaders from history, always reminding me that the most successful and fulfilled human beings are lifelong learners. That lesson has stuck with me, and I want to share with U, my dear Leaders, why this mindset is so important for both your personal and professional life.
1. The World Doesn’t Stand Still…And Neither Can U
Technology, industries, and even relationships are constantly evolving. What worked yesterday might not work tomorrow, and there’s a good chance it won’t. Staying curious and committed to your growth keeps U adaptable, relevant, nimble and prepared for whatever comes next. And those attributes are key in ALL areas of your life.
2. Learning Fuels Confidence and Creativity
When U challenge yourself to grow, U gain a wide range of new tools, ideas, and perspectives. That confidence spills over into every area of your life…at work, in leadership, and at home. And creativity? It thrives when U feed your mind new information and experiences. So look for it…search for it! Say yes to any opportunities that speak to U. Even if U don’t enjoy what it is U committed to learning, at least U learned what U DON’T like! That’s a valuable lesson in itself.
3. Growth Brings Fulfillment
There’s something deeply satisfying about progress. Whether it’s mastering a new skill, improving your communication, or becoming a better leader, growth gives life meaning. Stagnation, on the other hand, leads to frustration and burnout. And I don’t know about U, but frustration and burnout are two things I have zero interest in acquiring, so focus on your own forward momentum!
So as kids head back to school this month, I encourage U to ask yourself: What’s my next step in learning and growth? Because the truth is, that part of life never ends…and that’s a good thing.
And of course, if you’re ready to invest in your own growth, I’m here to support U. At uandimproved.com, we offer 2.5-day retreat-style experiential leadership and communication classes, and small group and individual coaching programs, designed to help U unlock and unleash your potential. Feel free to reach out and we can find the best fit for U. This is what I do, and what I love, and supporting U in your personal and professional growth, to allow U to soar, is my greatest passion!
With love & gratitude,
Jodi
